Return to Campus

We are so blessed to reopen our on-site Sunday school for the 2022-23 academic year. You can find useful information on safety/hygiene and related content on this page.

Why has the school decided to reopen onsite school activities for the 2022-23 academic year?

The school administration, our board of directors and board of trustees had been consistently scanning various data points over the last year including, but not limited to, virus spread rate in the community, county guidelines, practices of public schools and parents sentiments in the backdrop of our class room configurations and ventilation system in the masjid. Based on various aforementioned factors, the school has now decided that it is relatively safe to bring our students, teachers, administration staff and volunteers back on campus to provide an even better academic experience while ensuring necessary safeguards remain in place.

What are we doing differently to ensure the health and safety of our community?

  • The most critical development has been the upgrade of the facility's ventilation system befitting the stringent health and safety needs.

  • Considering the constraint of real estate the school has, we have optimized the capacity of students in each section/grade.

  • The entire school area was professionally shampooed and cleaned in preparation for RTC.

  • A weekly cleaning service is being contracted to ensure the school facilities are clean & safe.

  • Air purifiers and sanitizer dispensers have been installed at various locations in the school

  • Adult and kid size masks will be available at front desk for anyone to use

Guidelines for absence if child or parents have symptoms or a confirmed virus detected

The sickness and absence guidelines have not changed. If for any reason your child has symptoms, it is advisable to keep him/her at home and fill out this absence form to inform the school administration. Same applies if your child(ren) has a positive test result for COVID-19 - we highly recommend the parents to keep their children at home, until subsequent tests show absence of the virus. School does not require copy/proof of a negative test result.

What are the mask guidelines?

Complying with the Alameda county guidelines, school administration recommends but does not mandate the use of a mask on the premises.

General FAQ

  1. What if I still want my child(ren) to continue remote learning as was the case during last academic year?

Considering the logistical challenges, school administration cannot provide in person and remote learning in parallel and hence the only channel of synchronous instruction would be in person with the use of CANVAS platform for asynchronous work.

  1. Can we consider in person along with remote learning for every section giving the flexibility for all students to follow instructions even if for some reason they cannot attend the school in person?

Considering the logistical challenges, school administration cannot provide in person and remote learning in parallel and hence the only channel of synchronous instruction would be in person with the use of CANVAS platform for asynchronous work.

  1. Are we making vaccination mandatory for all students, teachers and staff at the facility?

School administration highly recommends the approved doses for all the community members, but would not mandate for in person attendance in the school facility.

  1. What is the mechanism for contact tracing if a confirmed case is reported at the school?

The school will notify all Sunday School parents via email if we are notified of a Covid 19 exposure. Please note that this communication will only be sent if we are notified by a parent of such exposure.

  1. Would the school be checking the body temperature for all the students, teachers and staff?

Similar to other public institutions, MCC Sunday School would not be instituting temperature checks upon entry to the facility by the community members. This decision is predicated on the porous nature of the facility with multiple entry points, unavailability of volunteers and needed efficiency to keep the operations running in a timely fashion. As always, we rely on the parents to keep the child(ren) home in case of any symptoms with or without fever.

  1. In case of an uptick in the COVID cases in the community, could school go back to online only learning in the future?

Along with the whole community, we are living in unprecedented times and we would carefully and reasonably consider all possible factors before making a decision to change the mode of instruction. Any change would be made in light of public guidelines, safety, and the capacity of the volunteer staff of the school.

  1. What should I do if my child tests positive after having attended Sunday School?

Please notify us over email of the positive test, so that we may let the broader school community know. Please email us at info@mccsundayschool.org, subject “Covid Exposure Notification”.
